KLIMAFORUMf95 was the Coordination and Information Center for local, German
and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) before, during and after
the First Conference of the Parties to the Framework Convention on Climate
Change (COP1) in Berlin, Germany.
The center was established 6mounths in advance of the Climate Summit, in
October 1994. KLIMAFORUMf95 was sponsored by the GRUNE LIGA Berlin, a local
environment NGO, and by Deutscher Naturschtzrung (DNR), an umbrella organization
of German environment NGOs.
A special aim was to inform the general public and journalists about the
environmental and political situation and the demands of the environment and
development NGOs, for example the 20 percent reduction in CO2 emissions by 2005
? based on 1990 (AOSIS-protocol). For this purpose KLIMAFORUMf95 published
gKLIMAFORUM Bulletinh, a newsletter with a lot of background information.
gKLIMAFORUM Bulletinh was available in German and in English. A g Calendar of
Events g and a voluminous Reader with more information about the single
activities were published in German and English.
KLIMAFORUMf95 provided a lot of facilities under one roof in a big house ?
the gGreen Househ ? in the heart of Berlin. For example rooms of different size,
communication gadgets, press service, coordination of hundreds of activities for
more effectiveness, interpretation service, help for finding accommodation and
especially neighborhood with other environment and development organizations.
NGOs from all regions took part in the Climate Summit. KILMAFORUMf95 organized special facilities in the conference building for the green NGOs (room for press conference and meetings, rooms for organizational work and media contacts, computers, telephones, fax, and email). The Greenhouse Gathering of the Youth Campaign took place in a separate building. International NGOs of the Climate Action Network stayed together in Hotel Berolina where they had a working room with computers and telephone/fax. There they produced ECO, the NGO newsletter which has been published since the Stockholm Conference in 1972.
